Matthew Cohen, Professor of Puppet Arts and Theater Studies, trained in shadow puppetry (wayang kulit) in Indonesia, and has been awarded three royal titles for his contributions to Indonesian puppetry. About the Puppets... The puppets were designed by Ki Joko Susilo, an eighth-generation Indonesian puppet master from New Zealand. The designs are based on an 18th century Italian megillah, from a collection at Hebrew Union College. They were fabricated in a workshop in Central Java. About the Music... Son of Lion is a New York based musical ensemble and composers’ collective, performing with instruments derived from Indonesia. Meet the Performers...
